Cherry blossom season in Hokkaido begins from late April to mid May (refer to 2021 Cherry Blossom Forecast Japan for cherry blossom season in other cities in Japan). Below are Top 10 spots to enjoy cherry blossoms in Hokkaido.

1st Place Shizunai Nijukken Road 静内二十間道路

Shizunai Nijukken Road is “the 100 best roads in Japan”. The rows of cherry blossoms that are around 7Km long is definitely worth a visit.

2nd Place Goryokaku Park 五稜郭公園

Goryokaku Park is known for its interesting star-shaped design. The pink cherry blossoms that fill the star-shaped ridge makes it looks very special and beautiful.

Hokkaido Shrine has been a popular cherry blossom spot since the Meiji period as the first cherry blossom viewing spot in Sapporo. You can also find many stalls lined up outside the shrine during cherry blossom viewing period.

Tomakomai Midorigaoka Park is a park where you can enjoy with family. There are a baseball field, athelic field and flower beds. You can also enjoy taking a boat at Kintaro Pond (金太郎の池).

8th Place: Moerenuma Park モエレ沼公園

Moerenuma Park is a park with vast area. The basic designs of the park were created by a world-famous sculptor, Isamu Noguchi. The playset is surrounded by cherry blossom trees and makes it a viewing spot suitable for both adults and children.

9th Place: Yushun Sakura Road 優駿さくらロード

From the park’s entrance, there are around 1000 cherry blossom trees lining up on the both sides of the road. In 2004, the town’s people named the road as Yushun Sakura Road (Yushun literally means great horse) so that more people will get to know this viewing spot.

10th Place: Otaru Park 小樽公園
